The Big Burns Supper, is probably the biggest cultural event in the local calendar. It lasts almost two weeks during January/February with world-class music, theatre, comedy and much more! Previous appearances have included Bill Bailey, Public Service Broadcasting, Eddi Reader, Dougie McLean, Camille O'Sullivan and the Bay City Rollers!

Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival runs for 10 days ( late May - early June) with a lively and varied programme of music, drama, dance, arts and literature.

Spring Fling is an open studio weekend in May celebrating arts and crafts in Dumfries and Galloway. Artists and makers spanning the region open their studios to the public, offering insights, exclusives, demonstrations and the opportunity to buy direct. 

The Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre is a small, friendly art house cinema in Dumfries.

The Odeon Cinema in Dumfries shows the latest Hollywood blockbusters

The Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries shows a selection of local arts and crafts with a printmaking studio, shop and café.

The Castle Douglas Art Gallery has contemporary art and craft exhibitions.

The Tolbooth Arts Centre exhibits paintings from the Kirkcudbright area.

The Ross Gallery in Stranraer has a programme of changing exhibitions from local artists and crafts people. Most works are for sale.
