Spring is about to Fling again with painters, printmakers, potters, glassmakers, ceramicists, jewellery-makers, textile designers opening their studios to you and me between 25-27 May this year.
This fabulous and completely free event (some studios might even offer you a coffee and a piece of homemade cake!) covers the length and breadth of Dumfries and Galloway.
These artists throw open the doors to their studios for three days over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, offering us all the chance to get behind the scenes and see how and where they work. And of course, to buy their work!
I love Spring Fling. It’s a chance to explore parts of Dumfries & Galloway I might not otherwise have found. I’ve been up some very bumpy roads, off on to single track roads and often wondered where on earth I was going until I discovered….a studio and an artist.
(Sorry this photo doesn’t do justice to a lovely painting by Victor Henderson that I bought at Spring Fling many years ago – but it will give you the flavour!)
There is so much to see (a total of 94 studios in 2019) so Spring Fling has organised six different routes around the region so that you can carve up your trips into bite-sized chunks.
This year Spring Fling will be running a whole series of classes and workshops either side of the event if you’d like to learn from and be inspired by the artists themselves.
And if you are in visiting us earlier in the year there’s a chance to see a little of what’s on offer at a pop-up exhibition at the Oven in Dumfries town centre (right by the Midsteeple) between 5-13 April. Go on to Spring Fling’s website for more details www.spring-fling.co.uk.
The Flat in Glencaple is a great springboard for bouncing off to Spring Fling so come and stay. Call Sue Greig on 07971094529 or email sue_greig@yahoo.co.uk.
